We are carbon neutral!
Our company’s carbon footprint in 2016 was 40.86 metric tonnes of C02 emissions. To offset our carbon emissions, we have supported the reforestation charity One Tree Planted to plant 200 trees in Haiti.
Haiti has lost nearly all of its forests, going from 60% to less than 2% tree cover over the course of the last 80 years. Timber accounts for over 70% of the country’s energy consumption, making replanting trees more necessary than ever. Furthermore, trees help to eliminate soil erosion, something that Haiti desperately needs as hurricanes and earthquakes continue to cause landslides throughout the region.
Haiti needs reforestation help more than any other country. With only 2% forest cover, Haiti is in desperate need of trees. Despite its government’s best efforts, the nation’s economy has been ravaged by natural disasters and hard times, making tree planting a challenge. Donating to Haiti has an enormous impact for the Haitian people. The Haitian government is working harder than any other when it comes to reforestation, pledging to plant 5 million trees over the next decade. However, with little public support or control, Haiti needs help. Every tree planted helps the government provide food and energy sources for its people. That, in turn, will help the country get back on its feet economically, helping to put it in a position to start working on other, cleaner forms of energy for the future.
One Tree Planted supports partners to grow and plant saplings during the rainy season, in irrigated land, ensuring an 80% survival rate. Trees are then trimmed and pruned for optimal health. Finally, a third party audit and assessment is conducted.
Other steps we have taken to protect the environment include choosing a hybrid for the company car, recycling waste, and drinking tap water instead of bottled water. Most of our team members cycle to work.
